“I will never be able to say what is in my heart, because words fail us, because it is in our nature to protect, because there are times when what is public and what is private must be discerned. There is comfort in keeping what is sacred inside us not as a secret, but as a prayer.”
Terry Tempest Williams
Welcome to On The Wing, our blog for the year as we read When Women Were Birds. Here, we will share our thoughts about certain chapters or themes, and we invite you to interact with us and one another in the comments. We will provide discussion questions and a quote every month.
If you feel inspired to create paintings or poems, dance or sing, or express anything through any medium, we welcome you to share with us online here. You can send photos, videos, recordings, or documents to Erika’s email - ebodin3648@gmail.com - and I will post them for you.
We will also highlight a “bird of the month” for you as we discover more about our avian friends, who make our world so beautiful. If you’d like to sign up for emails from National Geographic and Audubon as they celebrate ‘Year of the Bird’ you can do so here: https://www.nationalgeographic.org/projects/year-of-the-bird/ and http://www.audubon.org/yearofthebird
We will be meeting locally in a more typical “book group” and encourage you to reach out to others near you if in-person book discussion is your cup of tea. We are hoping to read and discuss 4 to 5 chapters every month, but you should structure your reading and/or book group any way that works best for you. If you have any questions or comments, please reach out!
*I’ll add that if it’s not too much trouble, I have a “Subscribe” form near the bottom of the home page, which you can access by scrolling down or by clicking the "Subscribe" tab in the main menu across the top of the page. If you want to get updates about when a post comes out, you can enter your email here. It will be easier for me to reach out to you all from this website than from my gmail account. Thanks so much!*
You are able to submit comments at the bottom of this page using your Facebook account login, but since not everyone has Facebook, I've added a separate "Discussion" page you can navigate to from the main menu. You will have to leave your name and email in order to comment. Please let me know if there are any technical difficulties.
